 Paul Wells President, CEO
Paul Wells founded Flow Communications as an Advertising Agency at age 25. He has extensive experience in creating ad campaigns, from conception to production. Flow is responsible for breakthrough work for many clients, including Bill Graham Presents, Double Rainbow Ice Cream and Working Assets Long Distance.
While attending the City University Of New York (Studying to become a Veterinarian!), Paul discovered a passion for radio at the campus station, WCCR. He continued to pursue a path that lead him to the Bay Area and Stanford University, where he served as the Music Director of KZSU.
Paul became "The Lobster," one of the West Coast's most popular and legendary radio personalities. He has performed at powerhouse stations such as LA's KMET and KNAC, as well as the Bay Area's KSAN, KQAK (The Quake), KLIV, KUFX (K-FOX), KOME and KSJO. As Music Director and Asst. Program Director of KSJO in the late 70's, Paul was instrumental in "breaking" many new rock artists, including The Police, ACDC and Tom Petty & The
Heartbreakers. From 1988 to 1992, his program on KRQR (The Rocker), "The Lobster Breakfast," was San Francisco's top-rated music morning show.
With a morning show driven by produced comedy bits, Paul turned Flow towards syndicated radio production, selling his material to national comedy services. In 1994, he produced a short form radios series for CBS Radio Networks and was introduced to the company that produced the networks' House Of Blues radio programs. Flow Communications then began to produce the HOB Breaks program for that company, and was asked to join them in 1995.
Paul's professional broadcasting experience included management positions in programming and music programming as well as "DJ" work. Paul has directed on-air radio staffs and production staffs, including hiring and training morning show producers.
As Director of Marketing & Production at Ben Manilla Productions (BMP), Paul was responsible for new projects and revenue generation. A series of Smooth Jazz radio specials, a production service for radio stations called "Audio Helper" and "The Guitar Show with Kevin Bacon" were all projects he managed from conception through marketing to completion. His efforts significantly raised visibility of BMP within the radio and music industry, and contributed greatly to the revenue growth of the company.
In 1998, Paul decided to put his full time efforts towards Flow Communications, and opened a digital multi-track production studio and office in downtown San Francisco, sharing space with Business Radio 1220 and serving as their Creative Director. In 2000, he was hired as Director of Programming for Information Radio Network's Satellite Radio Channels, creating branding and programs for the launch of 5 talk channels on Sirius Satellite Radio and two foreign lanquage channels for XM.
In 2002, Flow Communications moved to it's current location in the Media Gulch area on Green Street. Inspired by being located on the same block where Tom Donahue launched "Underground FM Radio 24/7 on KMPX in 1967, he returned to the airwaves as the Crustacean DJ, opening up "Lobster's Rock Box" to produced The SF Bay Radio Hour, now syndicated nationally and heard weekly in 20 markets.
In 2005, Paul Wells enlisted former Mayor of San Francisco Willie L. Brown, Jr. and Political Comedian Will Durst to create a talk radio show. Flow Communications succeeded in inking a deal with Clear Channel Radio to bring "Keepin' It Real with Will & Willie" to mornings at 960 Am, KQKE, SF. Paul served as On-air Executive Producer.
An active and community minded individual, Paul served on the SF Muni Graffiti Citizens Advisory Board and Board Of Directors of San Francisco Beautiful, a non-profit organization that is a major social force in protecting and enhancing the beauty of The City. He is also Vice-President of the Starr King Park Open Space Preserve and serves on the Market Street Railway Advisory Board.
